I have been positively woeful in keeping up this blog, and if you’re suspecting that the attention I’ve been applying here is a reflection of the attention I have been giving to the allotment, you might well be right. But, hey, you’re not my mother, so I won’t go into long explanation as to why. [...]

I was reminded by daysgoby. She’s good like that.
Don’t forget your candles.

Down House

I’m just back from next door, after sharing some white wine with Julie ND, and chatting about, among other things, my trip on Wednesday to Down House. Down House was the home of Charles Darwin from 1842 to 1882, when he died. The house is beautiful, quite peaceful and maintained by English Heritage in an [...]

Rosie and I wandered down the lottie yesterday afternoon. I had a vague hope of doing some weeding but instead we chose to do an inspection of the plot, and take some measurements too, so that I can draw a little plan.
Update on the growth:
Potatoes (accent) – the flowers are out, we may be harvesting [...]

Post-Easter Progress

Did you know National Welly Week starts tomorrow? It’s an initiative by Garden Organic (formerly HDRA) to raise funds to help educate and inspire people about organic gardening, farming and food. . . . that there aren’t enough gardening/growing/green programmes on to keep me amused (because, of course, I don’t have anything else to do but watch lots of TV), and then I saw a trailer for It’s Not Easy Being Green, which is starting a new series on Thursday. I have to say I didn’t [...]

Bean there

I know, I know, you’re wondering where I’ve been and whether I’ve given up on the lottie. Well, of course I haven’t. Last weekend I couldn’t get down there as I was busy both days.
Yesterday, I had to nip over to a friend’s house to feed their cats, and so my time down the allotment [...]

We’ve started

We had our first proper morning at the allotment on Sunday. We all trouped down – all being Rosie, Jenny, Hubby, and Julie-next-door, who is sharing in the space and supplying some much needed experience and knowledge. I drove down with Jenny and the tools, and everyone else walked.

Our plot.
You can see the first [...]
